Old Gun Emplacement
A navy gun used to sit on it's mounting here, guarding the Leith Harbour whaling station. The gun has been removed, but the Spartan living quarters can still be seen.
This picture, taken on an overcast day, does
not do justice to the natural beauty of Stromness Bay. We look over the
accommodation blocks, storage tanks, boiler house, cookeries and stores
buildings. The flensing plan is to the left of centre, just above the tuft of
grass.
